Why is it safe?
Feather wands are non-toxic and provide excellent behavioral enrichment by mimicking prey movement. The risk is purely physical: feathers, string, and small attachments can be swallowed during energetic play, causing choking or GI obstruction. The wand rod can also break and cause injury.
Affected Systems
Digestive
Symptoms
If feather or string is ingested: vomiting, retching, potential obstruction symptoms.
What To Do
Always supervise during use. Store completely out of reach when not actively playing. If a feather or string component is ingested: monitor for obstruction signs; contact vet if symptomatic.
Notes
Feather wands are among the most effective toys for engaging a cat's predatory instinct, they should be in every cat household. The single important rule: interactive wand toys are supervised-only. Left unattended with a wand toy, many cats will dismantle it and ingest components.
