Cat Treats
Cat Treats
Treats should constitute no more than 10% of daily caloric intake. Low-quality treats use artificial colorings, excessive sodium, sugar additives, and unspecified by-products. High-calorie treats fed excessively are a primary driver of feline obesity. Some semi-moist treat formats contain propylene glycol as a humectant, allowed in the US at low levels in cat food, but absent from European market formulations and higher-quality products.
Additional notes: Propylene glycol is banned in cat food in the EU but permitted in the US at low concentrations. If importing US-market treats into Europe, check this ingredient. Cats can develop a strong preference for highly palatable treats and begin refusing balanced food, rotate treat types and maintain consistent limits to prevent this.
