🟢 LOW — Safe
Why is it safe?
Plain cooked salmon is a high-quality protein and omega-3 source that is not toxic to cats. Many quality commercial cat foods use salmon as a primary protein. The specific risk with salmon applies to RAW salmon, which may harbor parasites and bacterial pathogens. Cooking eliminates these risks completely.
Symptoms
None for cooked salmon without seasoning.
What To Do
No action needed.
Notes
Remove all bones before offering, salmon pin bones are fine and sharp and can cause GI perforation. Never offer salmon in lemon butter, seasoned, salted, or smoked (smoked salmon is very high in sodium). Salmon-flavored cat treats are fine, they use cooked, processed salmon.
