Why is it safe?
Food-grade silicone is chemically inert, heat-stable, and non-toxic, used in food preparation, baking molds, bowl mats, and baby products precisely because it does not leach compounds. Physical ingestion of silicone pieces is the only concern, it does not digest and may cause obstruction if swallowed in quantity.
Affected Systems
Digestive
Symptoms
Contact: none. Ingestion of fragments: potential obstruction.
What To Do
No action for contact. Monitor if fragments are ingested. Vet if obstruction symptoms develop.
Notes
Silicone is preferable to PVC for cat accessories. Cat bowl mats, silicone toys, and silicone phone cases are common household items, all chemically safe. Replace damaged silicone cat accessories when sharp edges or accessible fragments develop. Silicone earphone tips (small size) carry physical obstruction risk, see earbuds entry.
