Why is it safe?
Accelerated hydrogen peroxide (AHP) products are the gold-standard cat-safe disinfectants used in veterinary clinics and shelters. AHP consists of hydrogen peroxide stabilized with surfactants that dramatically increase its microbial efficacy at low concentrations. After contact time, it biodegrades into water and oxygen, leaving no residue, no phenols, no quaternary ammonium compounds, and no toxic byproducts. Safe for cats once surfaces are dry.
Symptoms
Concentrated undiluted solution before dry: mild irritation. Normal use on dried surfaces: no symptoms.
What To Do
Allow treated surfaces to fully dry before cat access. No action needed once dry.
Notes
F10 Biosecurity (South Africa / widely distributed) and Rescue (Virox Technologies, widely available in veterinary and professional supply channels) are the two most established brands. Both are effective against feline parvovirus (panleukopenia), calicivirus, herpesvirus, and ringworm, making them superior to most household disinfectants for cat-specific pathogens. Dilution ratios vary by application, follow product instructions. Safe alternatives to phenolic disinfectants (Dettol, original Lysol) and pine-based cleaners, both of which are hepatotoxic to cats.
