Why is it risky?
Latex balloon fragments are a choking and intestinal obstruction risk if chewed and swallowed, popped balloon pieces are especially prone to being ingested during play.

Symptoms
Choking, gagging, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy if a swallowed piece causes a blockage.
What To Do
Dispose of any popped balloon fragments immediately and thoroughly. If a piece is swallowed, contact a vet, it can require surgery to remove.
Notes
Mylar/foil balloons pose less ingestion risk than latex but are still a choking hazard if a cat chews through the deflating material.
