Blueberries

Vaccinium corymbosum / Vaccinium angustifolium

🟢 LOW — Safe

Why is it safe?

Blueberries are not toxic to cats and are listed as safe by major veterinary poison control sources. They contain antioxidants and are low in calories. Cats are obligate carnivores who do not require fruit in their diet and cannot taste sweetness, so most show little interest in blueberries.

Symptoms

None at normal amounts. Excessive quantities may cause soft stools or mild GI upset.

What To Do

No action needed.

Notes

Offer only plain fresh or frozen blueberries. Blueberry-flavored products, jams, yogurts, and muffins contain added sugars, artificial flavors, and other ingredients that are not appropriate for cats. The fruit itself is safe; most processed blueberry products are not.
