Why is it risky?
Christmas tinsel do not have chemical toxin, a physical hazard. The long, shiny strands are irresistible for cats to bat and swallow, and ingested tinsel is a classic cause of linear foreign body intestinal obstruction.

Symptoms
Vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, straining, or visible thread at the base of the tongue or in the stool.
What To Do
If thread or tinsel is visible protruding from the mouth or anus, do NOT pull it, go to the vet immediately. It may be anchored further inside the intestines.
Notes
Skip tinsel and ribbon entirely in households with cats. This is a genuine, common cause of emergency surgery every holiday season.
