Why is it risky?
Naphthalene mothballs damage red blood cells, and cats are especially sensitive to this effect. Fume exposure alone, without ingestion, can also cause respiratory irritation.

Digestive · Liver · Respiratory
Symptoms
Vomiting, lethargy, pale or yellow gums (signs of anemia or jaundice), difficulty breathing from fumes, liver damage in severe cases.
What To Do
Vet immediately if ingested, or if the cat spent time in an enclosed space with heavy mothball fumes.
Notes
Ventilate any storage area using mothballs; cats are often drawn to investigate the strong smell.
