Toy Mice (Plush, with Small Parts)

🟡 MEDIUM — Caution

Why is it risky?

Plush toy mice are generally safe as a category but frequently constructed with hazardous small components: plastic button eyes attached with metal posts, glued noses, feather or fabric tails, metal rattle beads inside. These components are detached during vigorous play and swallowed. Catnip-filled mice encourage more intense chewing, accelerating component detachment.

Affected Systems

Digestive · Respiratory

Symptoms

Retching, vomiting. If rigid component swallowed: obstruction symptoms.

What To Do

Inspect regularly for component integrity. Replace immediately when eyes, nose, tail, or internal parts become detachable. Vet if component ingested.

Notes

When selecting toy mice: prefer embroidered eyes over plastic button eyes, reinforced over glued seams, fabric tails over string or feather tails. A toy mouse with a feather tail should always be supervised use, feather quills can be swallowed in segments and cause GI puncture.
