Rosemary

Why is it safe?

Rosemary is generally considered non-toxic to cats. It contains volatile oils (camphor, 1,8-cineole) that may cause mild GI upset if consumed in very large quantities, but normal culinary exposure, occasional sniffing or nibbling, poses no significant risk. Most cats avoid it due to its strong scent.

Symptoms

At most, mild vomiting or loose stools if large quantities are ingested. Most cats self-limit exposure.

What To Do

No action needed for normal exposure. Monitor if unusually large amounts were consumed.

Notes

Do not confuse fresh or dried rosemary (safe) with rosemary essential oil (concentrated, use with caution around cats). Rosemary is sometimes used in natural flea repellent products; topical use in these formulations is generally considered safe.
