🟢 LOW — Safe
Why is it safe?
Pine and fir needles are mildly irritating (not seriously toxic) but can cause GI upset or oral/paw injury from sharp needles. The bigger real-world risk is the tree water, which often contains fertilizers, preservatives, or stagnant bacteria.
Affected Systems
Digestive
Symptoms
Drooling, vomiting, mild GI upset from needle ingestion; vomiting/diarrhea from contaminated tree water.
What To Do
Usually no action needed for small needle ingestion. Keep tree water covered or additive-free; monitor if a cat drinks from it.
